I play a lot of Nick Cave in the month of October. Especially this album.
“Straight to You” by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds // Henry’s Dream (1992)
I don’t think I’ll ever stop loving this song. I think I originally fell in love with it because I loved Anton Corbijn’s video so damn much, but of course it’s Nick Cave and for me as I got older, I just found myself loving his work more and more. He’s one of my favorite writers in the world, period. Be it lyrics, novels, or screenplays - I adore his literary voice as much as I adore his actual voice. Since I’ve been playing older material lately, I figured I’d crack into this jam because it’s an old favorite and romantic Nick Cave is a pretty stellar thing to behold.
I really go for Nick Cave’s love songs in a way I don’t for anybody else’s. I believe them. It has something to do with the way they contrast with the other music he does, the kind of dark and violent stuff, it makes the ballads seem more earned and more genuine.
I have not read his books. However, I thought The Proposition was pretty great.
