A Glasgow nightclub has installed a two-way mirror which allows male revellers in private booths to spy on unsuspecting women as they visit the toilet! With no notification or signage anywhere in the venue many female club goers have been left feeling embarrassed and used. Although they do briefly show the mirrors in a promo video, the club has been quickly deleting comments and posts on their social media from club goers trying to alert others to the situation. This is pretty much illegal and hugley violates privacy. Thank you The Shimmy Club for giving us a shiny, new, creative and cool take on objectification.
article herei’m never leaving my house again, this world is just too fucked up.
WHAT!?
gross gross gross gross gross
I lived in Evanston, Illinois and learned about the warm weather massacres in Chicago that happen every spring break or beginning of summer where dozens of high school kids get shot within matters of hours. And how nobody seemed to care. Living in New Orleans and near Chicago has left me jaded to what America prioritizes or chooses to ignore.
So I shouldn’t be surprised that the Mother’s Day Parade shooting has largely been forgotten. On Sunday, shots were fired into a crowd during a parade in the New Orleans 7th ward. Police said they saw three suspects running from the scene.
This is the largest mass shooting in the United States where the shooters were still at large after the crime was committed. Think about that for a minute. From Columbine to Virginia Tech to Fort Hill to Aurora, all the shooters were either killed or apprehended on site. But the person or people responsible for shooting 19 Americans are still free.
So why am I allowed to go outside? Where’s the city quarantine or FBI and Homeland Security presence for this act of “terrorism”?
Because this is an act of domestic terrorism right? Just because the alleged shooter was wearing a white tee and jeans does that suddenly make the shooting a gang-related affair? And we all know how irrelevant gang-related shootings are in America. The Mother’s Day shooting is so irrelevant that politicians haven’t even bothered to mention it to further their anti-gun agendas. If the shootings aren’t even important enough for politicians to spin, then it’s truly reached a black hole of irrelevance.
Did I mention the shooter is still on the loose? I have? Just checking. Police have released photos and video of one of the suspects, but he is still at large.
In a piece for the New York Times, Angelina Jolie revealed she underwent a preventative double mastectomy. I’m not going to summarize it here because you should hear it coming from her. If you haven’t yet read it, you really should read it right now here.
Angelina Jolie shared a personal story in hopes of raising awareness on a number of issues, from the surgery itself to the affordability of the gene test…
…wait. what’s that coming just over those hills? Why, it’s the sexists and misogynists! Because you see WOMEN’S HEALTH is not about the WOMAN, people! It’s about the poor menz who are now ‘stuck’ with their (as in ownership of, don’t your forget it!) woman!
(Throw in a dash of racism with your misogyny? Hell, why not!)
Everyone couldn’t be the first to think of “poor Brad Pitt” like Josh above, but man did the tweets thinking of “poor Brad Pitt” keep coming…
…and coming…
…and coming.
“He lost *his* ‘tittays’.” Poor Brad Pitt lost something he apparently owned, Angelina Jolie’s breasts themselves! And, yes, people (i.e. virgins) mourned her boobs themselves as if Angelina Jolie was some sort of villain who had some diabolical reason behind doing this.
“I bet he wished he stayed with Jen now.” Oh, boy. You mean to tell me some losers used lower her risk for breast cancer as a way to attack Angelina Jolie over Jennifer Aniston?, you ask. No, I mean to tell you that MANY losers used lowering her risk for breast cancer as a way to attack Angelina Jolie over Jennifer Aniston. (And if you assumed there would be “karma” tweets, you assumed correctly!)
Here’s a slew of folks who think Angelina Jolie removed her breasts because she’s an “attention whore”! Because nothing says good publicity in Hollywood like already being a sex icon and then going ahead and having your breasts removed…
If none of the winners above quite did it for you, here’s a mish-mash of really smart people. Just replace “smart” with “dumb, thank you…
Yeah, Angelina. I can’t believe you didn’t even TAKE THE RISK OF CANCER just so Brad Pitt can enjoy your (which he owns, don’t forget) boobs while having sex. Because, don’t forget girls, you’re just sexual play toys for men and nothing more!
Too bad you got the story completely wrong. I call you a douchebag.
Yes, because without breasts, there are absolutely no good reasons whatsoever for a guy to stay with their significant other…
Yup. You hear that, ladies? Without your boobs / bewbz / tits / tittys / rack / fun bags / whatever other dumb terms these fine people use for a woman’s breasts…you are apparently pointless.
Except, you’re not. Screw these haters who’ve probably never seen a bare breast in their life. And good for you, Angelina. It’s your life and your body, no one else’s.
I am so… so filled with rage at these thoughtless, entitled, sexist assholes.
Not strictly academic, but close enough. I’m Asian American and was taking a plane back to my university to finish up my PhD in English Literature and teach a composition class. The man sitting next to me asked me why I was flying from the West Coast to the Midwest. I told him I was going to the University of ________.
He asked me why I was going to the university so I told him I teach English.
He says, “You mean you’re learning English.”
“No,” I say. “I’m teaching English.”
“You see,” he replies, “You are confusing the words ‘teach’ and ‘learn.’ You are learning English.”
wow
“I’m sick and tired of seeing these victims trotted out, given rides on Air Force One, hauled into the Senate well, and everyone is terrified of these victims,” Bob Davis, part of the “Davis and Emmer” show on KTCN, said in his vicious April 12 diatribe. “I would stand in front of them and tell them, ‘Go to hell!’”
“Just because a bad thing happened to you, doesn’t mean that you get to put a king in charge of my life. I’m sorry that you suffered a tragedy. But you know what? Deal with it, and don’t force me to lose my liberty, which is a greater tragedy than your loss,” Davis said.Sometimes I think this country will heal someday and then I hear people like Bob Davis telling the families of the Newtown shootings to go to hell and saying that having to do background checks for a gun is worse than losing a child, and I change my mind.
This is what the school-to-prison pipeline looks like. This is how black youth criminalized.
- She was doing a science experiment
- She’s being charged as an ADULT
- She’s being charged with a FELONY
If this all goes the way the prosecution wants, this young woman will be LEGALLY discriminated against for the rest of her life. No voting, housing discrimination, employment discrimination (as if getting a job while black isn’t hard enough), etc. etc.
Here’s the thing: even if she was just fucking around and it made an accidental little bang (the description makes it sound like diet coke and mentos at the worst) she’s a kid. Sixteen years old. She doesn’t deserve prison. She doesn’t even deserve a trial. Give her a detention, maybe charge her if she broke something.
agh, schools these days

I just noticed something strange on Wikipedia. It appears that gradually, over time, editors have begun the process of moving women, one by one, alphabetically, from the “American Novelists” category to the “American Women Novelists” subcategory. So far, female authors whose last names begin with A or B have been most affected, although many others have, too.
The intention appears to be to create a list of “American Novelists” on Wikipedia that is made up almost entirely of men. The category lists 3,837 authors, and the first few hundred of them are mainly men. The explanation at the top of the page is that the list of “American Novelists” is too long, and therefore the novelists have to be put in subcategories whenever possible.
Too bad there isn’t a subcategory for “American Men Novelists.”
Wikipedia’s sexism toward female novelists (via explore-blog)
IMPORTANT UPDATE the author, Amanda Filipacchi, from Sunday:
“In an Op-Ed article I wrote, published on The New York Times’s Web site on Wednesday, I suggested it was too bad that there wasn’t a subcategory for “American Men Novelists.” And what do you know; shortly after, a new subcategory called exactly that appeared.
But there was more. Much more. As soon as the Op-Ed article appeared, unhappy Wikipedia editors pounced on my Wikipedia page and started making alterations to it, erasing as much as they possibly could without (I assume) technically breaking the rules. They removed the links to outside sources, like interviews of me and reviews of my novels. Not surprisingly, they also removed the link to the Op-Ed article. At the same time, they put up a banner at the top of my page saying the page needed “additional citations for verifications.” Too bad they’d just taken out the useful sources.
In 24 hours, there were 22 changes to my page. Before that, there had been 22 changes in four years. Thursday night, a kind soul went in there and put back the deleted sources. The Wiki editors instantly took them out again.”

His hunger strike is approaching its seventieth day. He is beyond the point where experts say “irreversible cognitive impairment and psychological damage” can result yet British prisoner Shaker Aamer, who has been detained without charge or trial in the Guantanamo Bay prison camps for eleven years, remains committed to resistance.
The Observer in the United Kingdom has published an op-ed he wrote from prison. He writes, “I’ve never been charged with any crime. I’ve never been allowed to see the evidence that the US once pretended they had against me. It’s all secret, even the statements they tortured out of me.”
He describes:
“Every day in Guantánamo is torture – as was the time they held me before that, in Bagram and Kandahar air force bases, in Afghanistan. It’s not really the individual acts of abuse (the strappado – that’s the process refined by the Spanish Inquisition where they hang you from your wrists so your shoulders begin to dislocate, the sleep deprivation, and the kicks and punches); it’s the combined experience. My favourite book here (I’ve read it over and over) has been Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell: torture is for torture, and the system is for the system”.
His political consciousness, however, prevents him from being willing to beg for mercy, end his hunger strike and accept what the system is doing to him.
“More than a decade of my life has been stolen from me, for no good reason,” Aamer declares. “I resent that; of course I do. I have missed the birth of my youngest son, and some of the most wonderful years with all my four children. I love being a father, and I always worked to do it as best I can.”
He wants to go home to London, but states, “I am never going to beg. If I have to die here, I want my children to know that I died for a principle, without bowing to my abusers.”
Clive Stafford Smith, lawyer and executive director for the UK-based legal charity, Reprieve, shares that Aamer, who is “widely regarded as a robust and resourceful character, has started to raise the possibility that he might die inside Guantánamo Bay.” He has asked Smith to “brief” his wife “that he might not make it out alive after all.” [READ]

Last year in Norristown, Pa., Lakisha Briggs’ boyfriend physically assaulted her, and the police arrested him. But in a cruel turn of events, a police officer then told Ms. Briggs, “You are on three strikes. We’re gonna have your landlord evict you.”
Yes, that’s right. The police threatened Ms. Briggs with eviction because she had received their assistance for domestic violence. Under Norristown’s “disorderly behavior ordinance,” the city penalizes landlords and tenants when the police respond to three instances of “disorderly behavior” within a four-month period. The ordinance specifically includes “domestic disturbances” as disorderly behavior that triggers enforcement of the law.
After her first “strike,” Ms. Briggs was terrified of calling the police. She did not want to do anything to risk losing her home. So even when her now ex-boyfriend attacked her with a brick, she did not call. And later, when he stabbed her in the neck, she was still too afraid to reach out. But both times, someone else did call the police. Based on these “strikes,” the city pressured her landlord to evict. After a housing court refused to order an eviction, the city said it planned to condemn the property and forcibly remove Ms. Briggs from her home. The ACLU intervened, and the city did not carry out its threats, and even agreed to repeal the ordinance. But just two weeks later, Norristown quietly passed a virtually identical ordinance that imposes fines on landlords unless they evict tenants who obtain police assistance, including for domestic violence.

In case you didn’t think “brown people are terrorists, white people are mentally ill” was a valid observation, here is someone who believes exactly that.
Unabomer, mcveigh, and lets not forget olympic park/abortion clinic bomber eric rudolph didnt use guns they used bombs and had stated political agendas/manifestos which they used acts of terror to promote - as terrorist do by definition. They were also privileged white men.
So not only is chuck woolery a pathetic cheese bag irrelevant out of work game show host of the lowest caliber - he is fact wrong
i’m embarrassed for the manchild with the cognitive deficit. look at him…oblivious to how he disproves so perfectly his own ideology.

The only reason I am still here is that President Obama refuses to send any detainees back to Yemen. This makes no sense. I am a human being, not a passport, and I deserve to be treated like one.
I do not want to die here, but until President Obama and Yemen’s president do something, that is what I risk every day.
… The situation is desperate now. All of the detainees here are suffering deeply. At least 40 people here are on a hunger strike. People are fainting with exhaustion every day. I have vomited blood.
And there is no end in sight to our imprisonment. Denying ourselves food and risking death every day is the choice we have made.
I just hope that because of the pain we are suffering, the eyes of the world will once again look to Guantánamo before it is too late.
