Just in general.
Who decided, oh, there’s these things. And people need to be aware of them. But once they know they exist, that’s it. We don’t need any deep digging. We just want people to know of things, not about them.
Oh and hey let’s staple ribbons to things to show we’re aware. Then they really don’t need to know anything, they just need to know what color corresponds to which words!
This person was a marketing GENIUS, & has made very many organizations very very rich with very little actual effort.
I want to blame this on the Breast Cancer Awareness people (who were indeed marketing geniuses).
“Awareness” is such a useless goal when not accompanied by action. Awareness lulls you into feeling like you’ve done something when you really haven’t. Awareness says we need to individually fund raise for causes instead of fighting for public action and government support/regulation that might actually accomplish things. Awareness starts and stops at the existence of a problem without imagining new solutions.
I hate awareness.
